Blogging is hard. Not hard-hard, physical labor, kinda hard. But still hard. Hard as in “I’ve got to put myself out there (with my real name and picture!!), and brace myself for internet rejection while fearing internet silence (much more likely outcome)” kinda hard. It’s forcing yourself to keep writing, keep developing recipes, keep taking pictures, even if they look like 💩 at the beginning.
I woke up today and decided to check pinterest. What a mistake, I know. I won’t bore you with the details, but for the remainder of the day I was a sad little puddle of self-pity. Why? well, cuz I’ve started my blog like a month ago and I’m STILL not a millionaire. Can you guys believe it?? the audacity.
Ugh, that’s why social media is giving you false expectations about reality.
Why Pinterest Advice = Lies
First of all, yes, those are 6 angry cats stickers that I put on a pinterest board. To get back to it, Can you even say something bad about pinterest? I feel like it’s I’m about to shame the mothership of blogging or somethin’ like that.
So, what drives me crazy, is the lies on pinterest. All of those “The secret to how I made 100k in my first month of bloggin!!!” are annoying AF. Not because I’m “black jealous” (as my 9 year old sister would say), but because they’re giving ZERO actual advice. I’m super happy for you for making it – I truly am! That just means I have a chance too. But why on earth would you create such post and then say things like “well… you’ve got to be authentic!”. Duh! Man, I already know that. I came to your blog for actual advice, not this SEO filler material, thank you very much.
Instead, they should write something like this:
“Wanna know the secret to how I made 100k in my firth month of bloggin?!?!”
—-“I wrote tons of clickbait articles to pinterest”.
That sounds more like the real story.
My Blogging Goals
Ok. After my lil rant about pinterest, I feel better. I really do. Now let’s get back to it.
I need to set up some achievable blogging goals. Achievable for me, I should specify. Others might be reading them and LOLing pretty hard right now. But we’ve all gotta start somewhere! My #1 challenge is not having any personal social media accounts, or sharing this blog at work (so shy ☺️). This means that I’ve gotta put my baby out there, and make the internet see it. Internet, here we come.
P.S.
Credit to this lovely guide for giving me tons of blogging goals inspiration.
