There are many types of soups. There are those hearty soups filled with barely, cold summer soups, and lovely lovely russian fruit soups (which I’ll post about comes warmer weather).
And then there’s this chicken soup. This soup is for real, sick, people. “Why real?”, you might ask. Well, because from a quick google search for sick people soup – you get a variety of recipes, all of which include many ingredients, all of which require prep. Fire roasted tomatoes anyone? Perhaps a homemade stew with julienned carrots, cubed potatoes, and crunchy kale?
Please. If you have have the energy to make all of that, you’re not sick. Go back to work lady, let us real sick people be.
So as I was saying, then there’s this soup. This soup, is EASY. Like, you can actually make it when sick – kind of easy. I ain’t even messing around with some “home made organic broth”. Ha! That’s for when I have people over. In this soup, we dump chicken stock powder (ok ok, it’s still organic – I admit) with everything else in a dutch oven, go watch a movie, and come back to a delicious soup. Because that’s how easy this chicken soup is.
I know you’re not paying much attention now (I get you, sick sisters), but I need you to remember this: once you’re feeling better, come back here and look up these weird soup croutons I’m about to tell you about. They’re called “Mandel Croutons” in English, which makes them sound horribly jewish. Alas, in Hebrew we call them “Shkedi Marak” which literally means” Soup Almonds”. They do not contain any almonds. Go figure.
These little soup croutons are not like ANY other croutons you’ve had before. I swear. Please please please, trust an internet stranger on this one – they’re so wonderfully delicious they will make you feel better right away. People in israel actually give those to their kids as a snack, and it’s pretty healthy cuz they’re 5 ingredients and none of them is a chemical. If you do end up trying these (you must!) please leave a comment letting me know if you liked them, it’ll literally make my day.
